Biofilm is able to accumulate on a denture, similar to natural teeth, and is in an ideal environment for other microbes to easily spread. Denture micro-pores can harbor VSC toxins and smells, bacteria, and Candida. Pneumonia in nursing homes has been found to be linked to this exact issue.
Patients that have dentures also often have other oral problems, like dry mouth, and fungal infections especially in those that the denture remains in the mouth constantly. Not removing the denture does not allow it to be cleaned regularly or properly. But because OraCare’s active ingredient kills microbes and breaks up biofilm in less than 2 minutes, patients no longer have to soak dentures over night! See Dry Mouth and Thrush for further information
OraCare's Activated Oral Cleanser can be used as a denture cleaner, just follow the following directions:
Pump OraCare instructed on bottle (4 pumps from each container) and let stand for 30 seconds then place into just enough water to cover a denture in a small container. Let soak for 20 minutes. This rinse should not be used as an over night soak, and does not need to be! After removing from the soak, brush all surfaces inside and outside of the denture with a very soft brush dipped in the denture soak liquid.
