Why Two Bottles?
It's how we create activated chlorine dioxide,
a gas that can care for the whole mouth.
a gas that can care for the whole mouth.
The main ingredient used in OraCare's Product line is Activated Chlorine Dioxide, the secret behind our award winning formula. Since true chlorine dioxide is a gas, the two solutions must stay separated until ready to use.
OraCare’s Activated Oral Cleanser is a great addition to any oral hygiene regimen because of its lack of side effects; no staining, no additional calculus/tartar buildup, and no altered taste. Improving daily hygiene can help prevent disease, and disease is easier to handle before it establishes itself in the mouth. A clean mouth is a healthy mouth!
Instructions for Use: Place equal parts of OraCare (4 pumps from each bottle) into the cup. Allow the product to activate for 30 seconds. Then rinse for 30-60 seconds.
What do the active ingredients do?
Activated chlorine dioxide has the ability to reach all areas of the mouth safely and more effectively than your standard OTC rinse.
Activated Chlorine Dioxide (CLO2) was discovered in 1814 by Sir Humphrey Davy and was actually first used as a bleach. In fact, even today it is used for bleaching wood pulp, because it is such a great oxidizing agent! This is also why it is exceptional at helping to maintain white teeth. We have also seen this compound used for a variety of antimicrobial uses, including in mold clean up after hurricane Katrina, and in water treatment systems due to its effectiveness at breaking up biofilm.
Chlorine Dioxide is a neutral compound that is effective even at low concentrations because of its unique qualities.
It very different from elementary chlorine, both in its chemical structure as well as in its behavior. One of the most important properties to be aware of about CLO2 is that it is a gas. To make CLO2, two liquids must be mixed to allow the gas to be released, this also contributes to the importance of a two bottle system. As a gas Activated Chlorine Dioxide is able to permeate places where liquids and solids just can’t go.
ACTIVATED VS STABILIZED ClO2
Don't be mislead by the term "stabilized chlorine dioxide". It is actually sodium chlorite. This is not chlorine dioxide and does not provide the same benefits. Since chlorine dioxide is a gas there is no way to contain a gas in a single bottle system without it leaking out. OraCare comes in two bottles in order to create chlroine dioxide with each mix, also allowing maximum benefits.
ClO2 vs CHX
Oral bacteria feed on sugars from food. Xylitol acts as a sugar replacement. By ingesting xylitol, bacteria are unable to eat anything else. Replacing sugar with xylitol therefore reduces the available fuel for the harmful bacteria.
Xylitol was first discovered in 1891. Categorized as a sugar alcohol, it is often used as a sugar replacement. It can be naturally occurring in fruits and vegetables but can also be commercially produced. It has been approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration since 1963. It is a common ingredient in many products including oral rinses, toothpastes, and chewing gum.
Xylitol is sweet in a number of ways and not just in flavor-unlike sugar, xylitol does not feed bacteria. It can actually starve the harmful bacteria that lives in your oral cavity. This in turn reduces plaque, buildup and tooth decay. If plaque is present on your teeth it triggers an inflammatory response from the body which causes swelling and bleeding. Since inflammation is one of the main factors in other chronic diseases, it is also suggested that reducing plaque and bleeding gums could have benefits for the rest of the body.
Optimal use of xylitol
We are asked all the time about the amount of xylitol in our products because numerous studies state the 5 grams is the optimal cavity prevention amount. First, we do not have enough xylitol in our products to equal the 5 grams if you use our products as directed but, using Oracare products can be part the patients regiment to get to 5 grams. Second, just because it isn’t at the optimal level does not mean it is not doing its job of starving bacteria and helping with the production of Collagen. Every time you use xylitol you receive its benefits.
