OraCare The Original Pre-Rinse Company

Picture

Mouth rinses are used for a number of different reasons in dentistry.  Mostly to help patients improve oral hygiene or freshen breath.  However, given their antiseptic properties, some agents also can serve an important function in infection control..

In their 1998 text book Infection Control and Management of Hazardous Materials for the Dental Team, Miller and Palenik write, “The application of antiseptics to the skin or mucous membranes before surgery or injections has been practiced for many years. The goal of such application is to reduce the number of microorganisms on the surface to prevent their entry to underlying tissues, which could cause bacteremia, septicemia, or local harmful infections. The use of an antimicrobial mouthrinse by the patient before dental procedures is based on a similar principle of reducing the number of oral microorganisms. This reduction also reduces the number of microorganisms that may escape a patient’s mouth during dental care through aerosols, spatter, or direct contact.”

Pre-rinsing Is A MUST In The Dental Office

Picture
If you are not using a Pre-Rinse prior to your procedures then all the spraying, wrapping, and wiping is a waste.  You may have disinfected the surfaces, however we know that aerosols come out of the mouth during dental procedures, these can linger in the air and settle on surfaces in your operatory from one patient to the next.  What have you done to try to reduce the microbes in the air?

If you treat patients and wear a face shield, you know why pre-rinsing is important. On your shield, you will see evidence of the aerosol of a high speed hand piece, but it is what you don’t see that will harm you. In the air and on your skin and clothes are dangerous microbes (Bacteria, Viruses and Fungi) that came from your patient’s mouth.  Our goal should to be to eliminate or at least minimize the microbes prior to treatment.  As we know, it is not just bacteria that are harmful but also viruses, fungi, and biofilm. We must choose a product that has the ability to kill all these types microbes.  Some offices attempt to use over the counter rinses or chlorhexidine but these products only remove bacteria. In fact, most rinses will only help in regard to bacteria.

OraCare™ is the BEST product for pre-rinsing because OraCare’s active ingredient chlorine dioxide (ClO2) kills bacteria, viruses, fungi, and breaks up biofilm through the process of oxidation.   Chlorine dioxide has been used for nearly 200 years in other industries like water treatment systems and the post harvest of foods. It is safe and effective.   Dental professionals choose activated chlorine dioxide as their pre-rinse, as many are incorporating it into their daily routine of personal protective measures. It has many additional benefits and uses with patients including bleeding gums, periodontitis, implant maintenance, dry mouth, bad breath, mouth sores, and more. In office uses include pre/post rinsing, and irrigation.

Not only can OraCare help improve oral health it can protect you as a dental professional.
